NEIGHBORHOOD FALMOUTH CORONAVIRUS RESPONSE

Overview

The Board and Staff of Neighborhood Falmouth are concerned about the effect COVID-19 could have on our members and volunteers as the virus spreads on the Cape. Because the members of Neighborhood Falmouth and many of our volunteers can be considered in the vulnerable demographic, we want to be especially thoughtful in our approach.

Our staff will monitor the websites of local, state, and the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for the latest advisories that may impact NF members and volunteers. Throughout the crisis we will increase communication to our members and volunteers, keeping you informed and sharing helpful information.

Programs and Events

For the immediate future all NF programs and events are cancelled or postponed until the outbreak has passed. Most upcoming March 2020 community activities have been cancelled.

 

Member and Volunteer Well Being

  • If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 immediately. 

  • If you are sick or test positive for the coronavirus, please notify the office. We will contact any volunteers you came in contact with and let them know that they may have been exposed to coronavirus and should contact their doctor.

  • Let the staff know what you need while you are sick and how NF can help.

  • For members and volunteers who live alone, please let us know if you would like a regular check-in call.

 

Services

Effective immediately, NF will be limiting services to our members. Only essential requests, such as grocery shopping, medicine pick up, and critical doctor appointments will be honored until March 31, 2020, possibly longer.

If you have a critical doctor’s appointment that requires transportation, please call the doctor’s office to confirm the appointment is still being honored. If it is, please call the NF office as usual to schedule your ride.

A system for grocery shopping FOR (not with) members will be in place soon.

The health and safety of our members and volunteers is our priority, and to that end we

encourage members to stay home and let willing volunteers provide help to you.

Grocery Shopping

We request that members work to order sufficient food to last for 2 or more weeks, and that you call the NF office with at least 3 working days notice. Please be flexible about when a volunteer can shop for you.

 

If a volunteer is unavailable to shop for you, our staff will help you with other options for food delivery such as Peapod (Stop & Shop), or Instacart (Shaw’s). West Falmouth Market delivers groceries. Windfall has online ordering for pickup only. NF volunteers or staff will help you get a service set up. Call the office to get help with this and even if you do not use a computer we can assist you.

If you usually have groceries delivered, ask the delivery person to call you when they arrive and leave your groceries outside your door – this is for your protection as well as the person making the delivery. If you cannot manage the weight of grocery bags, please allow the volunteer to put your groceries on a kitchen counter, while maintaining a safe distance from one another.

Medications

If you need medications delivered to your home contact the NF office and a request will be sent to our volunteer pool. If a volunteer is not available, the staff will work with you to ensure that your medications are delivered.

If you have medications delivered, ask the delivery person to call you when they arrive and leave your medications outside your door – this is for your protection as well as the person making the delivery. CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreens provide delivery options but details need to be determined for each member. Call your pharmacy to see if they deliver and, if so, to determine their guidelines and fees, if any.

Prepared Meals/Restaurant Deliveries

If you order meals, ask the delivery person to call you when they arrive and leave your order outside your door – this is for your protection as well as the person making the delivery. If you need help ordering anything, please call the office and we will order it for you or assist you in ordering. If you do not have internet call the office for assistance.

Grub Hub – www.grubhub.com and Doordash – www.doordash.com: 

You can order food using these services from many restaurants in Falmouth, if the restaurant is open. Participating restaurants include Burger King, BBC, Thai Kitchen, Peking Palace, Silver Lounge, Crabapples, Casa Vallarta, Mary Ellen’s, Eli’s Tavern, The Quarterdeck, Steve’s Pizza, and Liam Maguire’s.

Friendly Phone Calls

While social distancing is physically healthy, we want to be sure that you do not feel too alone or isolated during the next few weeks. We would like to connect you with a regular phone friend for your health and for theirs! Please let us know if you are willing to call others or be called while we all navigate this new normal.
