What Volunteers Do

Transportation is our greatest need!

Our volunteers help provide the transportation needed for a positive and engaged lifestyle. Medical appointments, grocery shopping, a play or concert, a bridge game or book club – all are done door-to-door and arm-in-arm.

Volunteers also use their time and talents in members’ homes – a weekly visit, help with gardening, reading and walking together, getting trash to the curb, and other neighborly deeds.

There are also many volunteer opportunities in being on the Neighborhood Falmouth team: join a committee, help in the office, or help plan our events. We have an opportunity that matches your interests and talents!

Helping Members Directly

We are flexible in the many ways we can help members and encourage requests of all kinds. Ways we have helped include:

Transportation. Drive members to medical and other appointments, grocery store, social and community events

Errands. Shop for groceries or supplies, pick up dry-cleaning, ship packages.

Well-being Activities. Accompany member for a walk or in-person visit or provide weekly or daily check-in calls.

Social Activities. Keep a member company by chatting, playing cards, reading, doing puzzles, or meeting for lunch.

Food at Home. Shop for prepared foods or help connect a member with food delivery services

Technology Assistance. Help with setting up or understanding electronics such as computers , cell phones, tablets, wearable devices, remote controls, or thermostats.

Home Organization. Help organize cabinets, closets, and clothing.

Home Monitoring. Check on a member's house when they are away.

Light Home Maintenance. Help with trash, smoke detector batteries, window screens and AC units, or closet and fridge cleanup.

Light Yard Maintenance. Provide simple spring or fall yard cleanups, fill bird feeders, or move outdoor furniture.

Pet Care. Provide short-term care for pets during an emergency or when member is temporarily unable to provide care.
